Commanding guidelines from Iron to review. link on Trello.

- Admins should apply bans to BOTH servers.
- Is there scope for more leniency on 1 than 2. People who play on 1 are newer and are more likely to commit ignorance rather than malice. No 1 is the server to learn on, and as such be more available for those players to practice.
Banning should be done across both, but a considered approach according to the rule set is needed. Is this solvable by taking that player to one side and offering constructive advice rather than removing from both servers. If they have done something against the community rules worthy of a ban intentionally, then it applies community wide.

- Creation of teams. See Trello. Aids in awareness of who is responsible for what aspect of the community.

- Supported addons list not up to date. (***** to update).

- Discussion about keeping it going on.
- Better to keep as a once a week / bi-monthly event. Addresses player balance across other servers.Also consideres server load.
Lots of different missions not often played on server 2, even 1 life missions can be short and enjoyable if you only do the first objective for example. Doesn’t just need to be the current seeded ones. Should help provide some of the variety people are demanding.
More small scaled missions with respawn would be a welcome alternative to seeding or zgm
We also need the server for testing potential new addons / mods.

Limit on connections was 20, On Friday 17th at approximately 19:00hrs this was bumped up to 50. Has anyone had any issues since then ?
There is no other viable alternative unless someone is prepared to pay for a 24/7 server with good bandwidth and a useage of somewhere between 2 and 5TB/month that can be connected to via ssh
I have looked into hosting our mod packs on the steam workshop.
There are several issues with this.
1) It is illegal to redistributre 3rd party content on steam without explicit permission from the legal owners of that content. (I can assure you, we wont get that across the board)
2) If we used the steam workshop and gave you a list of addons to subscribe too
..... a)Your command line -mod params would be very long and confusing and constantly changing
3) There wouldn't be a nice consistent once a week update, this would be add hock , maybe none 1 week and 6 times the next as and when addons came out and a backend admin could update the servers (Admin nightmare)
4)(All mods subscribed too on steam would have to remain in there original mod folders or you would forever be micromanaging your addons and constantly causing support calls when this is messed up, which would occur often.

A special events server is exactly that, not something that should be run constantly until you lose interest or effects the main addon server.
We do not have consistently large enough numbers to run these servers side by side over a prolonged time.
So I would suggest, if there is a special events addon server running, the No.2 should be shut down or vice versa. Neither should be run side by side.

Special Events server came up after 3 hours of game night on server 2 for a test of adding in ZGM to all missions in rotation for unsung. It was meant to be 2 or 3 people only and was shut down when more people were discovered on there (upto 10) whom presumably left game night on S2.

Some grey areas here as many factors that could be considered / blamed.
This is not for trolls, normal rules apply... but for players with good attitude that doesn’t match their skill.

If they cause a suspected issue, check the watchlist field. If listed for that vehicle take to one side and suggest editor practice. They will then be BANNED from taking that role on game nights for 2 weeks. (4 game nights) and made clear they should go practice and learn the vehicle in the editor (with zeus for example). If they come back after this period and display the same incompetence then this period is then implemented for another 4 weeks (8 game nights). If after this time they have not improved and continue to cause issues on game nights they will be PERMANENTLY restricted from that role. Admins must check loadout slots against the list at the start of ALL game nights.

Some implementation so far. Done in a positive way and has resulted in a positive conversation. Hopefully a positive outcome. Am sure they won’t all be as smooth.

TOPICS:
ACRE test results
Bumpy start. Not certain if mission or server related. Some issues to still be resolved. Feedback to be read. Large scale issues with some players not being able to log into high pop server. For those able to get on, response was fairly positive and improved with familiarity over the evening.
Some peculiar behaviour to investigate. Some call signs not being able to hear others. (***** to check ‘antenna direction setting).
Some reported issues also with short range & direct. Could be specific mission related. Ie ***** not being able to hear lucius. Restart of mission seemed to fix.
***** reports SLs only able to talk to one FT at a time.
Some issues may be mitigated with running simple missions from a scripting point of view. Ie heavy script loads, looping functions etc.
Introduce guidelines to encompass best use instructions for ACRE. Avoiding some of the pitfalls they may not be aware of that can cause real problems in mission if not used correctly. To be done after main bug fixes and problems have been identified and resolved.
Some default config can be managed at a server level if not set by mission maker.

Server outages
Last weeks cancelled game night due to lag / latency. Problem was at colo. Nothing we could do. Was not an attack on our servers as suspected.

Server 2 intro mission update (*****)
Progress being made, bugfixing, script development. Test to be scheduled with *****, ***** & *****.

***** re: no1 gaming session last week. LOW numbers, missions selected had some issues causing low satisfaction resulting in people leaving. 4 missions played were all by the same person (*****/ *****). ***** went through some of the issues with him and pointed him to help for mission development (*****).

Mission development general. Time to rethink the guidelines and process of getting feedback for mission devs instead of focus on execution of mission, not design.

Mission feedback form should be posted before mission debrief begins. Allows more than ample time to be filled.

Debriefs can do with a reminder of brevity and salient points to cover.

Influx of new people. Are we able to maintain the critical mass of trained vs new? Increasing number of new people not used to the community or SOPs. Some relaxing of attitudes with the introduction of recent new events. Perhaps consistency of running seeding missions allows familiarity to breed focus? Sounds like new shiney features distracting players from their focus.

Complaint against spreadsheet for no2. Some missions moved from NEW to UPDATED if not played yet.

We could use a “Simple Introduction to mission making” guide, that’s less demanding of experience and aiming at the ‘brand new’ new mission developer. This would not be to produce missions for Zeus Community Game nights, but as a stepping stone to moving onto more advanced mission development using the framework etc. (*****).

Milton needs mission dev access. Cobra for mission dev. Good chance to remind ourselves of the criteria for mission devs. Should not be given the tag until the fulfill the criteria originally outlined. 10 missions of good quality adhering to our standards and general ethos.

Server numbers
Large influx direct into S2. Lots of new people. Some sessions moved from S2 onto S1 to expose these new people to the S1 alternative PO, Insurgency etc.
Some good nights on S2 of late. Means managing the new people more effectively but CAN be done with effort.
Moving people back to S1 when the populus is so low will result in them leaving the community.
Better use of watchlist is required rather than removing, limit them to other roles. Intro mission will help.
Main points are still ability vs attitude. Eagerness does not imply competence.
Call to fix S1 issues. Little / no support for most of the day meaning those who do come in and want to play are put off by high incidents of trolls etc.
Nurturing the new people with the right attitude has been shown to pay off. Ability can be taught and learnt. Keep up the effort.
Re-try training squad on gamenights?
Suggestion of closing S2 at certain times to boost S1 numbers. Some new mission ports are a great welcome of variety but perhaps do not cater best for new people. Extra moving parts etc. KOTH would draw the wrong attitudes to the server / community. Simple missions are best for S1.
Critical mass of people is key to pulling in new people. When S2 plays for a session or two on S1 it does attract more numbers in. Important to mention gamenights, forums, google docs etc.
Set re-org time on non gaming nights to boost TS numbers? Email announcement, Twitch? Steam Group? Reddit?
Page on website to include links to these media streams and content hubs.
S1 gamenight missions to include option to play outside of game nights and turn on respawn etc. Wave respawn mechanic could help guide new players rather than spawning alone unsure of what to do.
TvT seems a big draw. Perhaps run more nights on S1.

(requested by ***** ) (***** ) Problem: ZGM missions on server#2 are frequently lacking in quality, bad ZGM missions cause population drop and lower the bar of expectation, players do not provide adequate feedback to ZGM devs so no improvement is made.
Possible solution: Enforce new rules to help "officialise" ZGM missions and prevent "ad-hoc" mentality. For example; ZGM missions must have written pre-mission briefing similar to game night missions posted on forums and linked to players during briefing. Feedback form or dedicated forum thread to provide ZGM mission feedback? ***** - I did have a tool for devs to use that allowed them to input a mission name of their choice which in turn prefilled feedback link for them.(***** to prepare).

Some concerns about using any zgm missions on gamenights, orientation training on zgm - basic certification? Would this address mentality issues. Co-seat slot for mentoring? Manpower to enforce zgm off gamenights? Time spent constructing the plan before hand will put people off. Could we limit the use of zgm to a time limit. 45-60mins max etc. Keep it short, help cohesion. Anything over time players then have a chance to endex or continue. Consider limiting ZGMs to when an admin is present and can co-zeus. They could then get a zgm cert. Must use a pre-conceived plan as per forum link. There are good ZGMs and removing the flexibility would be a loss due to lack of variety and overplayed seeder missions. Limit ZGM availability on server to a couple of nights per week, More discussion needed for consensus.

Some QC is needed on terrains we have to ensure all round compatibility with our style of missions, gameplay etc.Comparisons currently made based on the options for gameplay they provide. If it exists in current map selection it is not considered. We have a large selection of terrains currently to achieve this. Any new addition must be exceptional in quality and gameplay options it provides.

General: New influx is mostly mod experience seeking gamers. Vanilla not really attractive to those coming in from efforts made on media channels. Is this from a targeted campaign? Pus effort into new DLC, ready to go will be a pull for S1 vanilla. New PO to coincide?

*****: Last TVT Night there was a lot of unhappy people because of someone driving a truck over some hills. Some people complaining it was unrealistic and not taking the mission seriously.
*****: Best course of action is for Devs to try make sure these things aren’t possible to begin with. Most try bend rules to win but best for mission designer to limit the possibility of this.Should be added to mission developer guidelines.
*****: Can’t put it all on the mission makers. Some people will always push the boundaries and this needs to be reigned in. Seems more attitudinal.Problem is where does it start? Commanders. Some have a certain attitude to TVT that favours absurd rushes. If a commander does a ‘cheese’ attack they should be removed from the server. This should serve as a lesson.
*****: Agree with ‘cheesing’ being shut down. All the rules are in place to do this. Don’t think the example given is an example of this, just poor judgement. Seems a legit alternative approach for the truck / troops to make. Try get commanders to focus on strategy rather than improvisation.
*****: Where to draw the line between improv and tactics. As attackers, best plan is the unexpected one. Very difficult to draw that line. 1 mission on S2 recently (kill other team in small town and secure) 1 team decided to rush as quick as possible by shouldering rifles: opinion:

Good time to suggest it to add to the appeal of new content, as such, with ACRE.

-S2 Numbers low.
Recent developments account for some of this, usual summer period and UNI times always a factor. This is recovery and rebuild time. Need some new seeder missions for 2 after acre rollout. Incursion, sabotage, etc. call for mission devs to rollout versions with ACRE.

- Discussion on admin attendance across both servers.

- Suggestion of having a mission on game night where people are selected for roles. Might increase experimentation of roles and inject a little more enjoyability in a smaller player orbat. Random selection.

- ***** : Gamenights (usually first mission) taking too long.
This can take upto 30-40mins if any issues, this puts people off and some disconnect before start. Suggest starting the server up earlier (10mins) to give time for server to come up and people time to connect. Allows for a quicker start. Also get a list of at least 3 missions to play over the night beforehand., Saves more waiting time.
Mention on TS server that YOU are restarting the server, so all admins are aware so no more incidents of the server being restarted 3 times because people aren’t communicating. Also, remember the steam announcements too.
***** : As long as briefing is covered in full and any optional points mentioned ie community meeting, special events, training etc.Seen people not just hurrying through it, but doing it without any enthusiasm.

- ***** : Reminder on rules for mission uploading prior to game night.

- Proposed ZGM tag with whitelist access to ZGM slot. Need to determine a way to vet the candidates for this slot, there was a suggestion of another training session or perhaps just a shortened ''interview'' perhaps. Also need a list of DOs and DONTs for this role to form the basis of moderation.
***** : Probably not the best time to do this with low numbers, better spending the energy in other promotions, such as video channel etc.
***** : ZGM system is based on code in mission. So, if you wanted to do this, as far as i’m aware there’s no other way to do it. All missions requiring this restriction would need to be amended. Will investigate.

***** : Kyoptic suggestion for writing the ZGM guidelines.
